Electronics Design and Software Service

We offer a wide range of services and technical expertise.  We have been involved full-time in electronic development since 1986 as degree qualified professional engineers.  Our expertise ranges from technology assessments and technical studies, product specification, analog and RF design, low power and high speed digital circuits and software (both embedded and PC).

We take the view that our customer's ideas belong to the customer.

Considered Solutions does not claim ownership of any technology developed for a customer (subject to restrictions).  Patentable technologies developed as part of a fully-funded development project are usually assigned as desired by the customer.  When you assess contract electronics developers ask about ownership of intellectual property.  Some developers claim ownership.  We generally don't.

Appropriate non-disclosure agreements are signed as a matter of course with clients that request them.

Technology Assessments and Technical Studies:

Considered Solutions has prepared numerous reports assessing existing technology and possible implementation options for new ideas. If you have an idea and wonder if it is possible or where to go for the next step, contact us. We can give informal verbal advise or a detailed written assessment.

Remember: You own the report and are free to take it elsewhere.

Product Specification

Considered Solutions has extensive experience in product specification. This includes the critical task of being able to rapidly partition a project into areas of risk and then quickly assessing technical solutions to the high risk areas. Such partitioning is essential for the short time-to-market requirement of the modern market.

Electronic Development

A few of the major projects that Considered Solutions has designed or participated in include:

  • Providing the principle hardware engineer and RF specialist for a spread spectrum radio communications device.  This project involved the use of unusual RF PCB materials and techniques.

  • Off-air paging RF receiver

  • Device level implementation of MPEG audio decoder, ultrasonic sensor interface including time-varying amplifiers

  • Critical SAW specification, RF implementation, device selection and PLL design

  • Multi-award winning multi-bay parking meter (ultra-low power through-glass keypad, coin sensor, robust communications interface, switch mode power supply design)

  • Full engineering responsibility for hardware design, test and software of an Intel 386EX based PCI comms I/O processing card

  • Critical circuit PCB design, power supply design and thermal assessment of a Gigabit Ethernet optical fibre DWDM multiplexer

  • Many projects involving low and micro-power requirements both digital and analog

Software

Considered Solutions has extensive experience in software design and implementation, from the difficult task of efficient algorithm and system design for extremely resource limited micro-controllers to implementation of low level real-time code for PC hardware through to Microsoft Windows™ development (both user interface code and low level hardware accessing code). In addition, Considered Solutions has designed the firmware for numerous programmable logic devices (PLD) and been involved in providing expert advise in a number of cases where "shoe-horning" of logic was required. Considered Solutions is an experienced system designer and has used object oriented and multi-threading techniques, where appropriate, for many years.

  • Languages used regularly are:

  • C/C++
  • C#
  • Numerous assemblers for various microcontrollers/microprocessors
  • VHDL and other HDLs for PLD development
  • Borland/Inprise Delphi
  • Languages less frequently used include:

  • Microsoft Visual Basic and VBA,  Pascal, Java
  • Major projects include:

  • On going development of in-house OWAS ergonomic assessment programs (Visual Basic and C++).
  • Many production and development test utilities
  • Add-on servers and scripts for Protel EDA software (see our download page for details)
  • Device simulator  (based on PC hardware, includes reprogramming low level timer intervals and extensive interrupt service routine programming.) (C/C++)
  • Protocol simulator and test tool for external device interface. (C/C++)
  • Various proof-of-concept algorithms, routines and functions to assist development of a golf competition management system
  • Dynamic Link Library (DLL) to support programming of  configuration dongles via a PC parallel port (under Microsoft Windows™ 95/98/NT)
  • A large and robust video interface for a point-of-sale-marketing device. (Uses MPEG-II audio/video playback, asynchronous communications, multimedia timers, supporting various audio and video effects.)
External Resources. Considered Solutions has available a range of external resources that can be applied to large development tasks.
